Game of Thrones ended its run last Sunday (5/19/2019). Sue and I watched the first season on DVD just prior the start of season two. From then on, we watched each episode together over the seven seasons. (Though Sue was out of town for the finale, and I went to a watch party with some friends.) While I have my criticisms – as does everyone on the internet – I wanted to say thank you to HBO, to George R.R. Martin, David Benioff, and D. B. Weiss. Especially during the later seasons, the fans took more pleasure bashing Benioff and Weiss than watching the shows. Instead, I’d like to just say thank you for all their hard work. For seven years, Sue and I enjoyed an excellent fantasy drama. As a SFF fan, I never expected to see fantasy translated to the screen so faithfully (for the first few seasons). The show captured everything I loved about the books, and since it garnered such a huge audience, I hold out hope that more fantasy will get made into such excellent shows. Game of Thrones brought some of my favorite characters to life. So, thank you for all the fun, for all the tense moments, and for all the cinematic shots.
