Change to Review Process

When I set out to build this blog, I knew that I had a lot to learn and that only through continuous improvement would it succeed. I love reviewing books and hope to continue to be able to do so. This means improving my reviews of Advanced Review Copies (ARCs) and how I promote those reviews. For those who don’t know, publishers provide early copies to reviewers to generate interest in the book prior to its release. Luckily, I’ve gotten access to some ARCs. For positive reviews, I want my processes and promotion to maximize the benefit to the publisher and author. This is fandom in general, right? We talk about the things that we like. But for now, my processes are as organized as the picture below.

After looking through the publisher suggestions on NetGalley and a post on Effortlessly Reading, the ideal time to post a review is between one week and one month prior to the publication date. Currently, I’ve been reading the ARC and publishing my review immediately. I thought this let the publisher know that they’re not just sending the book out into the void. I also wanted to drive up early talk about the title. Pre-orders tend to be very good for authors and make the publishers willing to keep taking risks on those authors.

Going forward, PrimmLife reviews will comply with the publishers recommended posting timeline. To improve this blog, I need to be more professional in my reviews. This change is an easy one as I already track publication dates. As part of my goals for the blog, I started tracking the books that I read and from where my copies come. Since I’m tracking that information, the change is minor. I can keep up with my schedule of reading and schedule the review ahead of time.
